My three platform Issues are:
Safety:
When it comes to having safety and lowered crime San Antonio needs to drastically increase its police presence. Our current police force stands at 2,500. This number needs to be increased.
"I support an aggressive approach in building those numbers due to our population growth".
On average there are 2,447 police calls per day. This volume of emergency calls is overburdening our current police force.
Since we are the 7th largest city in the US our police force needs to be 10% of what New York City has. Which is roughly 33, 536 policemen. The needed number for San Antonio is roughly 3,536 needed to police a city our size.
I equally support a more comprehensive recruitment plan for new cadets. This would require an extensive understanding of the US Constitution. A citizen engagement course with cadets might spurn a stronger relationship moving forward.
Finally, Our city's District Attorney needs to prosecute the criminal element that plagues our great city. A standard must be set in order to keep our streets safe and clear.
Transparency:
As a Councilman I will demand to know where any and all incoming revenue has been earmarked to be used. Current projects need to have hard completion deadlines. Those dates must be met or any new contracts with any contractor will be subject to review.
The public should not shoulder the burden of funding every new project. If we can’t afford it, we shouldn’t build it. If we the people are to shoulder the burden to fund any new project, then maybe it’s time for the public to receive a dividends check a return on our investment since we are the ones picking up the tab moving forward.
All propositions need to be worded so that the public can understand what is being proposed and voted upon. We needed an outside source to examine the where and why any and all propositions are being used or voted on. The people’s interest must come first, not the developers or investors that simply walk away after they have been paid.
Infrastructure
Road maintenance should be one of our first priorities when our cities budget is voted upon. With an estimated 181,000 people in district 8 apartment complexes along with housing subdivisions have increased faster than our roads can keep up. District 8 has several construction projects underway. With increased vehicle traffic from UTSA Blvd, Hausmen road our current streets have become overburdened.
Growth
It is estimated that by 2030 our population will grow to 3 million plus. Any pet or commercial projects that are not directly tied to roads need to be paused. The safety of our roads equally calls for more police presence.
Quote:
“As a candidate for City Council District 8, I believe in the principles of limited government and personal responsibility. This includes the use of consented authority, in which we as taxpayers must reserve the right to take back, especially when a city's government abuses those liberties”.
